Canada Condemns Iranian Strikes on UAE, Calls for Regional De-escalation

(MENAFN) According to reports, Canada has strongly condemned renewed missile and drone attacks attributed to Iran targeting the United Arab Emirates, amid rising tensions in the region.

The Canadian Prime Minister described the strikes as unprovoked and expressed solidarity with the UAE leadership and its population. He also praised efforts taken to defend civilians and protect infrastructure, emphasizing support for the country during the escalation.

Canadian officials reiterated the need to reduce tensions and return to diplomatic engagement, stressing that stability in the region requires de-escalation from all sides. The foreign minister also highlighted that attacks on civilian infrastructure are unacceptable under international legal norms and called for an end to such incidents.

The statements follow reports of damage at an energy facility in Fujairah after a drone strike, which also resulted in injuries to foreign workers who were taken for medical treatment.

The latest developments come against the backdrop of ongoing regional instability that has included earlier military exchanges, maritime disruptions, and temporary ceasefire arrangements that have struggled to hold. Diplomatic mediation efforts have taken place, but a lasting agreement has yet to be reached.

Overall, Canada’s response aligns with broader international calls urging restraint and a return to negotiations to prevent further escalation in an already volatile region.
