Sharp drop of Canadians returning to US in July
Data showed that 1.7 million Canadians returned by car from the U.S. during the month, down 36.9 percent from July 2024. Air travel returns also fell, with a 25.8 percent year-on-year decline in Canadian residents flying back from the U.S.
Since the onset of the trade dispute with Washington, Ottawa has encouraged citizens to spend and vacation domestically. As part of this push, the federal government launched the Canada Strong Pass, a summer initiative running from June 20 to September 2, offering free or discounted access to major national attractions.
