Carney reaffirmed Canada’s unwavering support for Ukraine amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. The call follows last week’s joint move by Canada, the European Union, and Britain to propose a reduction in the price cap on Russian crude oil, according to the same statement.
Looking ahead to Friday’s scheduled meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, Carney and Zelensky expressed approval of Washington’s involvement in efforts to restore peace in Ukraine.
The statement noted that both leaders welcomed U.S. efforts to promote peace in Ukraine.
Trump had confirmed on Friday that he would meet Putin on August 15 in Alaska.
